The latest data security incident figures from the Information Commissioner’s Office show that, although cyber receives a lot of airtime, organisations need to be mindful of all aspects of information security. In Q1 2019-20, there were 573 cyber personal data breach reports received. However, this accounts for only 19% of the 3091 breaches reported in total. Data posted or faxed to the wrong recipient was the single largest cause of non-cyber breach reports (16% of the total). It’s a reminder that organisations need to assess all the risks to their information, and implement appropriate controls to manage those risks.
